Thesis Work pt.1

My third year in graduate school has begun which also means my thesis needs to kick off as well. Last week I had a meeting with my committee about my project and they all agreed it was all over the place. It had no structure, it was just a simple collection of people failing at the gym. During the summer I knew something was up with my idea and I am now happy to have it put into words.

Instead of just doing a basic scene with comedic bits I was encouraged to really lean into the goal of my project. The goal is actually deceptively simple, I want to make a funny animated short about working out. Something around 1 minute long. After my thesis meeting I was pretty overwhelmed with what to do, until I got into my truck and started driving (where all the best ideas come from). During the meeting the terms "salesman" and "infomercial" were being tossed around which had me thinking about this:
I remember the super serious commercials about how terrible drugs are and thought to myself, "what if instead of drugs, these intense commercials talk about exercising?". Which has brought me to now. My thesis will be a comedic sarcastic intense commercial about how great working out is. I am still debating on whether it takes place in a world of opposites or if it's a commercial about the dangers of exercise. I am leaning towards the former, a world where working out is treated like drugs and frowned upon. The short finally has a name as well. Something along the lines of "Workoucaholics" (Work-ow-cah-holics).
